In
June of 2010, Alanna Morris joined the Workout on the Hill team as Coach
Carey’s mentee. In this capacity, Alanna had the unique opportunity to
observe Carey’s coaching style, gain a greater understanding of group
fitness, and eventually plan and lead her own sessions. Alanna worked
with Carey while studying at the National Personal Training Institute
(NPTI) and preparing for her certification with the American College
of Sports Medicine (ACSM), which she received in September of 2010.
Alanna comes to the world of personal fitness from UCSF, where worked in HIV/AIDS research. After nearly six years in the lab, putting her biology and neuroscience degrees from Smith College to excellent use, Alanna decided she was ready for a career change. While she found her work at UCSF interesting and satisfying, Alanna was ready to leave her lab bench behind, head outdoors and work more closely with people.
Personal fitness is a natural calling for Alanna. She has been a competitive runner for seventeen years, including four years of collegiate competition on Smith College’s Cross-country and Track teams. Alanna continues to enjoy training and running today, for personal fitness as well as in races.
As a coach, Alanna endeavors to support her clients in achieving their personal fitness goals while enjoying the beauty and serenity that is so often found before dawn on Bernal Hill. Alanna’s focus is on functional fitness, core strength, balance, flexibility, and injury prevention. Her goal is to help clients lead balanced, healthy lives through vigorous yet thoughtful workouts. Alanna is thrilled to be part of the WOTH team and looks forward to bringing her enthusiasm and energy to the group as well as the individual client.
