Testimonials

"I like working out outside. With no mirrors. Gyms can be very cliquey and too social and talkative. I enjoy watching the sunrise during the winter months. The workout moves quickly and gives me a lot of positive reinforcement. For others, leading a workout is just a job. You can tell Elaine is sincerely committed to exercise and health for her students." —VP, 55

"I like Elaine's focus on wellness and how she tailors the class to people's different needs and fitness levels. She doesn't push you beyond what you're ready for. If she sees you are ready, she will push you." —JS, 38

"My focus is on building strength for my labor. Elaine creates a very inviting and welcoming community environment and balances that by holding us to our individual fitness needs. She still finds time in a class to check in with each of us to see how we are doing in meeting our goals. It takes a great trainer with a lot of savvy to do that." —MM, 37

"I now exercise 5 days a week. At the encouragement of my girlfriend, I signed up for a half-marathon, which takes place in late July in San Francisco. Elaine's workout gave me the tools and confidence to attempt something like this. I've got my fitness jump-started by Workout on The Hill." —DH, 28

"I really like the atmosphere that Elaine creates and the level of structure. I appreciate just showing up and having someone map out what's going to happen during the workout. It's also a great way to meet your neighbors – people from a variety of careers and ages, who have this one common goal of being fit." —SW, 38

"I love running now and never would have pushed myself without WOTH. In the beginning the workouts were physically challenging but also inspiring. I had a breakthrough one day while relaxing with my family at Stinson Beach. I decided to go for a run along the shore and felt this new stamina to keep running and breathing. My husband has been impressed to hear that I'm now running up Bernal Hill." —SK, 39

Elaine encouraged me to do the program at my own pace, which was reassuring. I used to say I couldn't run in spite of the fact that I dance 3 hours nonstop. I had misconceptions I needed to overcome. Elaine would encourage me to beat my own record. What she offers is so individualized. I was skeptical, attended different gyms in the past but didn't stick to it. But this time, although it was painful, the time, the coach and the group encouraged me to return and I began to attend three times a week. The SMART goals are helpful, having measurable goals, like I'm going down one size or losing so many pounds. My new goal was to attend workouts five times a week, which I am now doing." —SZ, 40

"Since I spend a lot of time sitting in front of the computer, WOTH has benefited me greatly in terms of my posture and building a stronger back. It also has helped lower my stress level. I like Carey's Tuesday session – the circuit training and the tools she brings down to Saint Mary's Park. She has a different style and technique, probably from her martial arts training. She takes us through an unusual series of movements, which gives a lot of variety to the workout. It makes you think." —PM, 42
